Headteacher Message

Hi Everyone,

Even though it has been a wet week this week, it hasn’t dampened our spirits at school. It has been lovely talking to children about their learning this week when I’ve walked around school. I’ve been particularly impressed with the children’s problem solving and reasoning in maths. Our children are always so keen to talk about what they are learning and enjoying in all of their lessons.

It is good to see that our whole school attendance has improved this week, and we even have some classes with 100%. It is vitally important that all children have good attendance, which remains above 95%. Holidays in term time won’t be authorised and the local authority are fining families. We do understand that some absences can’t be helped but research shows that any absence from school can not only affect a child academically, but it can also affect wellbeing. Please read our updated attendance policy for this year if you haven’t already.

I hope you are enjoying seeing the posts on our new website from your child’s classroom, showing the learning and experiences that your child is enjoying. If there is anything else that you feel as parents it would be useful to have on our website, then please let myself or Mr Green know.

Have a good weekend,

Karen Tearle.

Attendance

The attendance bear will be visiting the class with the best attendance this week – Cosmic Comets

Whole school attendance this week was – 91.9%.

Regular and punctual attendance at school is vital for your child’s education, thank you for your continued support to improving our attendance.  We are aiming for over 96% every class, every week and to be as close to the DFE’s expectation of 98%

Unfortunately our whole school attendance is well below our target of 96% this week.  It is vital that children attend school every day, unless they are too sick to do so (eg have a high temperature or sickness).  Just one day off school can really affect a child’s wellbeing and their ability to achieve expected learning in a planned sequence.

Head Teacher Message

Hello Everyone,

I hope you’ve all had a great week. It has been lovely to have the sun shining for most of it.

This week we have continued to add further information about the different aspects of our provision at school on our new website. You will see that we will continue to enhance this information in the coming weeks, so please keep viewing it so you can find out what we offer here and what your child is learning. Key dates and class information can be found on the Class Pages

On Wednesday, our year 5 and 6 pupils watched the visiting Snap Trap theatre group who taught them about the SMART rules of internet safety. We are continually teaching and updating all children about how to keep themselves safe online. This year we have signed up again to the Knowsley Internet Safety support, as they supply us with expert training sessions for our staff, governors and you as parents. Please keep a look out for these sessions as the link for you to watch them, will be sent out via school Ping and will also be available on our website on the Online Safety Page

Yesterday, KS2 enjoyed a visit from popular Author, Tom Palmer. He not only shared his experiences on how he became an author but also showed the children many artefacts and plans he uses to create his stories. Tom creates many historical fiction and sports novels for children. As a school encouraging and supporting children to find a love of reading and writing is important to us, so we will continue to find different ways to help children’s reading and writing flourish.

Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week.

Karen Tearle.

When is a solid not a solid?

Carrying on with our ‘states of matter’ topic, we have been thinking about matter that could be a little more difficult to categorise as a solid, liquid or gas. To show such difficulties, we made some oobleck! We had great fun watching how it became a solid under pressure, but a liquid when left to pour.

If you wanted to make some at home, simply mix a cup of cornflour with 3/4 of a cup of water.

Making bird feeders

In Science this half-term we have been learning about what animals need to survive. We have learned about mammals, fish and birds. On Wednesday, some of our Year 1 and 2 children made bird feeders and we will be checking these over the next few weeks.
